Why these stuffed dates are the best.
This simple snack hits all the high notes. It’s the right balance of sweet and salty. Super simple to whip together, filled with real food ingredients and a dab of sweetness. Life is about balance and when we need to hit a sweet craving but don’t want to go overboard, these sweet dates are here to curb the craving.
No “healthy desserts”.
Life is about balance. There are times of the year when we need to jump off the sugar bandwagon. It can be a hard habit to break! We’ve all been there, typically around the holidays when sweets are at their highest. Often, we’re asked to create and share recipes for “healthy brownies” or a version of our favorite sweets with a healthy twist. Here’s why I won’t do it:
If you’re going to have a brownie, have the dang brownie! Enjoy it with all it’s butter and sugar and chocolatey goodness. Do not mask it. Do not try to replicate it. Taking out all the butter and sugar and replacing it does not mean you can now have brownies for breakfast just because they are egg-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free. If you do, you are tricking yourself to think it’s okay to have brownies for breakfast.
When we enjoy a dessert for what it is, a treat, then we have it on occasion. On occasion means once in a while. If we lean into healthy versions of our favorite treats then we are making it more acceptable to introduce these foods into our diets more regularly. These dates are not a deathly version of anything. Dates are a naturally sweet fruit filled with vitamins, minerals and fiber which make them a well-rounded option for something a little sweet. Fill them with chocolate hazelnut almond butter and you’re amping up your snack with healthy fats. The combination of fat and fiber slows down the sugar absorption and keeps your digestive system moving and help you feel fuller, longer.
Another great thing about these dates is just how simple they are to make. With how simple and quick they come together, it’s an easy make-ahead treat.
