If you don’t have an air fryer yet, what are you waiting for?? These AirCrisp Teriyaki Meatballs are a flavorful addition to any rice and veggie bowl or salad, and are also delicious on their own. Teriyaki sauce takes ground turkey, a relatively bland meat, and completely elevates it. Drizzle some more sauce on top when they’re ready to serve for good measure, it’s just too good! Throw together the quick mixture, pop them in the air fryer, and you have a meal! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, you’ll never go back to making meatballs in anything other than the air fryer.
THE GROCERY LIST.
- Ground turkey – if you don’t have ground turkey in your house, feel free to substitute it with ground chicken, beef, or pork
- Panko – great for adding texture to your meatballs!
- Teriyaki – this ingredient dominates the flavor of the meatballs. I’ve linked my preferred brand, but there are so many on the market – try out different ones and use your favorite!
- Red onion – red onion has a very strong flavor, so dice into small chunks to distribute it evenly among the meatballs.
- Eggs – an important binding agent in your meatballs.
- Garlic powder – garlic and onion powder are a pantry staple that elevate the flavor of many of my favorite dishes.
- Onion powder
- Green onions – crunchy and so flavorful!
- Olive oil – this is just so the meatballs don’t stick to your hands when you roll them – feel free to use something else, like avocado oil, if you don’t have olive oil on hand.
- Cooking spray – so your meatballs don’t stick in the basket of your air fryer.
THE PREPARATION.
Start by making the meatball mixture: in a large bowl combine the ground turkey, panko, teriyaki sauce, diced red onion, eggs, garlic powder, and onion powder. To mix, you can use a wooden spoon, but it’s much easier to use your hands! Just make sure the mixture is fully incorporated.
Before you begin forming your meatballs, preheat the Ninja Foodi to 375°F on the AirCrisp setting. That way, it will be hot by the time you are ready to put the meatballs in.
To create meatballs of even sizes, use a cookie scoop. Scoop the mixture onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Coat your hands in olive oil to prevent sticking, and begin rolling the scooped balls in your hands to smooth them out.
Lightly spray the basket of the Ninja Foodi with the cooking spray of your choice, making sure to fully coat the basket so the meatballs don’t stick. Spread out the meatballs into a single layer in the basket. You will likely need to AirCrisp the meatballs in 2-3 batches, depending on the size of your air fryer basket.
Set the time for 8 minutes and AirCrisp the meatballs until crisp on the outside and 165°F on the inside.
To serve your AirCrisp Teriyaki Meatballs, drizzle with additional teriyaki sauce and top with sliced green onions. These meatballs are delicious over a bed of rice, with simple stir fried veggies, in a salad or on their own!
FREEZER MAKE AHEAD.
This is a quick recipe, but if you are looking to make them ahead so you can pop them straight into the air fryer, make the meatball mixture and roll into balls, then store in an airtight container in the freezer.
When you’re ready to prepare the meatballs, preheat the Ninja Foodi to 375°F. When it is preheated, lightly coat the basket with cooking spray. Remove the meatballs from the freezer and place them in a single layer into the basket. AirCrisp the meatballs until crisp on the outside and 165°F on the inside.
Since the meatballs are frozen they may take longer than 8 minutes to fully cook. Just make sure to monitor the inside temperature to ensure they are not frozen on the inside.
